I chose Annie Penn hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina. Members of the community are able to volunteer in many capacities. Some areas that are accessible to volunteers are the surgical waiting area, the gift shop, mail and floral deliveries, and support activities at the rehab center.

Annie Penn hospital is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1930. Annie Penn’s mission is to provide a strong community hospital for preventative and “exceptional” care. This location provides a rehabilitation center, a cancer center, occupational, physical, and speech therapy centers, a cardiac rehab center, a radiology department, along with other generalized med surge care They try to address any medical needs of the community and aid in healthy lifestyles. Annie Penn hospital is currently helping the community by hosting free COVID-19 test, every Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm. 3. After reflecting on the organization’s goals and mission, have your values, opinions, and/or beliefs about the importance of health changed or grown? Be specific.
While researching about Annie Penn my importance of health grew. I realized how essential health care is. Without places like Annie Penn many smaller communities would have to travel miles for quality health care. I feel that working in a facility like this, I could help others and truly make a difference in the lives of many.

- Would you choose to pursue that major as your parallel major?

At Annie Penn, nursing is one of multiple career opportunities. With me being a nursing major, I found this to be ideal in research and a great place to volunteer for hands on learning. Another major Annie Penn could be useful to is health care administration. This is also a career I could see myself pursuing. I find it especially interesting because you get to care about the quality of health care delivered and make a difference within patients’ lives.
