Workplace deviance is described as when someone , usually an employee, purposely tries to destroy or sabotage the workplace or its systems and information. There are two types of workplace deviance those being organizational deviance and interpersonal deviance. Organizational deviance are behaviors that have deviated from the standards and organizations expectations. Interpersonal deviance is described as deviance that is towards a targeted individual which can include sexual harassment, or verbal/physical aggression. How do these deviances relate to cybersecurity issues in the workplace? Accidents are possible especially in the world of cybersecurity such as when setting up workers accounts and accidently giving them more access to information that is unnecessary or unneeded or that they should not have access too. When this happens it is possible that they may sell that information or use it against the workplace is another form. An example of this would be within the healthcare system because most hospital employees have access to all patient information and they are most vulnerable to cyber attacks. Due to the fact that almost all records are kept online it makes it easier to hack and break into those online portals. In those online files you can find all kids of information ranging from social security numbers, addresses, full names, phone numbers, etc. Overall, there are many ways that people can commit workplace deviance, but there are ways to slow down and put a halt to these issues by not allowing personal technology devices into the workplace, background checks, and encrypting files and only giving higher ups access.
