What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
There are many ways that criminal justice and cybertechnology and security overlap each other. I see this overlap a lot considering I am a criminal justice major. Technology has a lot of connections within crime nowadays considering that technology is apart of everything in our lives in the 21st century and lots o people use technology to commit crimes including hacking, fraud, scamming, stalking, etc. There is one connection there as if you commit a cyber crime you will be held accountable and tried through the criminal justice system. One other big overlap is through the education of these two fields because if you earn a degree in criminal justice you could very well get a job in cybersecurity or within the cybercrime field. Digital forensics is another field like cybercrime that overlaps with criminal justice and it was created by criminal justice professionals as an additional field that computer, electronic, and other technologically related crimes, Therefore those working in the criminal justice field have a strong relationship with cyber crime and digital forensic networks and jobs. Those overlaps may also be tied to other disciplines within criminal justice courses. One example of this is white collar crimes because lots of cybercrimes are considered white collar, meaning committed by someone with high respectability and/or social status, and in some of these cases digital forensics is used to identify and investigate these crimes. Another example of these two fields overlapping is when a cyber criminal leave behind physical evidence such as hard drives or computers and the criminal justice professionals such as police or the government take that physical evidence and had it over to cybersecurity and cybertechnology professionals to look over. Overall, there are many ways that these two tie together or overlap as they are very close knit fields. I do believe that the overlap between these two fields will continue to grow overtime.
