How does cyber technology impact interactions between offenders and victims?
The interactions between offenders and victims and their impacts have changed and advanced highly due to advancements in cybercrime. In the past, most crimes were committed face to face, but nowadays a lot of crimes are committed online or through technology. Examples of this include scams, phishing, catfishing, and multiple types of theft including identity theft and fraud, credit card theft, and the theft of other personal information. In the past, if you were to get robbed it would be on the street or from a home break-in but now lots of theft is committed solely online or on the web. Just as much damage can be done online as can be in real life or in person. If hackers and cybercriminals are able to break through software they can steal almost any company or any persons information roughly quick and they will either use it or even sell it for profit. Both crimes online and in person are considered robbery and even things such as cyber bullying and threats can be considered assault. Online crimes hold just as much punishable value as those that are committed in person. Cyber technology has tremendously changed the way that people are victimized in the world today. While most people used to be worried about being a victim of crime when they went out now people have to be worried about becoming a victim every time they go online, send or open an email, or use the internet. With these statements in mind, I believe that cybercrime will continue to advance as time goes on and become more popular. In conclusion, one important thing to remember though is that cybercrimes can be just as harmful and damaging as in-person crimes and everyone should be vigilant when online and take precautions to keep themselves safe.
