Writing Reflection 1
This class has really opened my eyes on my strengths and weaknesses that I possess in writing. At first, I thought my writing was fine because in high school I tended to do well on writing assignments. But then again, this is college not high school. That was soon short lived when after seeing essay one and it’s reviews. I realized that there were a lot of flaws in my writing. A lot of them are just small basic grammatical and sentence structure errors. The thing about that is, those little errors can add up and have a big impact on my writing. After realizing these mistakes, I now focus and recognize on them so I don’t have the same errors later on in the class. It took me to essay one after getting a poor grade on it that I’m going to need to step it up; or if I keep doing the same things, I’ll never make any progress while i’m in college. I also had a hard time strictly using third person and no other form of person. It required me to change my thinking to make my essay sound as professional as it can. I sat down with my academic advisor, someone who I can come to whenever I’m struggling in something to see how I can fix this issue. She advised me to just simply look over my paper, read it out loud, and see if it makes sense. Originally I was expecting something different, in the sense of a more detailed solution; but really that’s all I had to do see many of my little mistakes. Sometimes we can get so caught up in just trying to meet the requirements of the paper, that we forget a lot of details that come with it. Grammar, sentence structure, word choice, clauses, all the little things that are the fundamentals of writing are critical for making a good paper.
