Society is analyzed through the application of Psychology concepts and theories of prominent Psychoanalysts of the past centuries. Topics like the Oedipus complex, political theories from Machiavelli, Freud's Society and Its Discontent, Max Weber, and the concept of the scapegoat were discussed throughout the course. In the first section of the essay exam, Sigmund Freud and Karl Jung's understanding of the Unconscious is compared and contrasted. In the second section, students were to surmise how Freud and Jung would explain modern warfare using their own Psychology theories.
The following artifact is a two-part essay exam where in the first part students were to summarize Max Weber's hypothesis on modern society, and in the second how the concepts applied to modern day Puerto Rican society. He reflected on Capitalism stemming from the fundamental concepts of the Protestant theology in Europe because certain villages that promoted Protestant beliefs were wealthier than Catholic villages. In the second part, Weber's observations served as a lens to analyze why capitalism does not work in Puerto Rican society.
