Spain's Golden Age literature had many exemplary pieces in many literary forms such as Prose, Poetry, Novels, and Theater pieces. Each pedagogical unit was supplied with readings of the historical context of the century the literary pieces were written in. Students were to understand the historical context first before attempting to read the literary pieces. The instructor created text commentary assignments to guide the student's understanding of the piece's historical importance. Below are a couple of samples of the completed coursework.
"Lazarillo de Tormes" was a written piece of unknown authorship in the 16th century, the Golden Age of Literature in Spain. This homework essay analyses the historical context the piece was written in and what the unknown author wanted to convey to the nobles of that century.
The novels "El casamiento engañoso" (The Treacherous Wedding) and "El coloquio de los perros" (The Conversation of Dogs) carry a considerable importance in Spain's Literature collection. Written by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, author of World's Classic Literature piece "Don Quijote", these novels explain the process of writing this literary form through their own narrative structures. The homework essay is guided by five questions that have the student reflect on the author's intentions in the novel, the type of life Spaniards had in the historical context it is written in, the narrative structures used in both novels, the temporal space the novels take place in, and the lesson the author wants to convey in regards to the process of writing literature.
