Of those in the Cybersecurity industry, how many of you have an image in your mind of what a Security Operations Center (SOC) looks like? Look like an operations center at NASA or the Situation Room in the White House? Chances are a SOC looks nothing like this, but that image still exists. This is likely due to media, whether it is news, television shows or movies, they perpetrate this false idea of what hacking or anything related to cybersecurity really is. Though I imagine, two or three people sitting in a few cubicles makes for a boring and uninteresting sort of setting, for the central security of an organization. People always ask for realism, and yet they are only provided just enough, because the typical person does not know the difference between a python script being edited, or simple command prompt command lines, and actual hacking being performed. And since most people don’t know the difference, they won’t have to be held accountable for just making up a fiction.
