Unknowingly doing illegal things online? This might be you, and for some of the 11 items listed by Andriy Slynchuk, you might never consider it. Of those listed, the following five, I consider to be the most egregious to commit, unknowingly or not. First, Sharing Passwords, Address or Photos of Others, two major problems here, one is people are entitled to have their digital things to remain secure, sharing their passwords does not enable that. Also pictures and addresses can lead can lead to something called “doxing” which reveals a person’s location, and they are entitled to their privacy and security, which leads to the Second. Bullying and Trolling, whether in person or online neither are acceptable actions, performed online is even worse, because people who feel a sense of protection behind their keyboard and screen might feel more inclined or empowered to say worse things or perform worse actions than they might in person. Third, Collecting Information About People Younger Than 13, children need to be protected, and violating their privacy and likeness online is not ok and violates the Children’s Online Protection Act. Next, Illegal Searches on the Internet, no-one needs to Google how to hire a contract killer for their spouse, or how to hide a body, jokes aside, committing capital crimes or even attempting them are typically illegal. The last is Using Copyrighted Images, as an artist myself, I understand not receiving credit or compensation for work by those who would use it without prior permission or payment.
