Starting a business can be hard and takes a lot of risks, funds can be tight, and probably not too many people work for the company so all that work can just be put on the person in charge, but technology is a huge part of having a business, and no matter the size big or small you will need cyber protection for your company to protect your systems data. If other small businesses knew more about the benefits that having a secure cybersecurity program could do for their business there would be fewer that got attacked on an average day to day basis. Which is probably why so many small businesses continue to fail because they were at risk of a cybersecurity threat that they ultimately struggle to overcome. As a business owner when starting a company or business it’s important to also educate yourself on the vulnerabilities of cybersecurity threats, just because you are a small business doesn’t mean you are any less visible to hackers you are probably the easiest target because you do not have the most advanced or expensive protection. Technology in general is expensive you don’t need to have the top cybersecurity system if you can’t afford it at the time, but at least have something that’s worth it to avoid your company getting involved in some type of data breach. It costs way more to recover from a cyber attack than to get protection from one, “In 2013 cyber attacks cost small businesses 8,699 per attack. Today that number has skyrocketed to 20,752 per attack”(SBA). To continue cyber attacks could also risk losing your whole business putting you in so much financial loss you could never recover from which is why it’s important to allocate money for cybersecurity programs if you have a small business.
