Assignment Takeaway

Assignment one was an activity that I enjoyed completing. It made me reflect on my personal experiences dealing with other cultures and what I’ve gained from it. For example, my personal experience was traveling to the country of Senegal and how I’ve gained a greater appreciation of what I have back home, and towards my own personal culture. This assignment taught me that by knowing and appreciating other cultures, it makes you more knowledgeable and accepting of what you learn through other cultures.

This particular assignment is very well related to my Interpersonal Relation class, which deals with communication. In that class, we learned about the impact communication has on an individual’s output on life. First, stepping out of your comfort zone is a big obstacle that is very necessary not only in communication, but in life itself. By doing so you gain something greater that you didn’t know was possible. In this instance with relevance towards this assignment, stepping out of my comfort zone at home and seeing what else the world has to offer. The two following pictures show a difference in the fashion influenced by their culture. On the left Senegalese’s women typically wear traditional clothing that are relatively modest, while on the right Americans wear clothing that are less modest.
