At the begining of this semester, I did not really know any Spanish. I knew how to say hello and good-bye, how are you, and I dont know/speak Spanish. But this past semester in Spanish 101, I learned how to tell time, name locations around a college campus, describe where things are located, and how to describe my family. It was a struggle for me seeing how it has been over 4 years since the last time I was in a Spanish class and i had forgotten just about everything. To try and help me get better and be able to keep up with the class, I tried to practice with friends who speak Spanish. It deffinetly helped me keep up with the class, but I still need to spend my free time this upcoming summer continuing to practice and studying so come the fall, i hopefully will not struggle as much. I also learned a few things about Spanish speaking countries that do some things different than we do here in America. The most noticable difference is when they great one another in a Spanish speaking country, they are a lot more physical than we are and show more public display of affection. Artifacts
One of the assignments we did in this class was a written composition to test our abilities write in Spanish. We needed to write up a brain storm, a rough draft, and a final draft. Each step showed how we are activly learning from the mistakes that we made. Here are both of my written compositions from this class.
Interpersonal Communication
In this class, there have been times where we needed to pair off with another classmate and have a conversation in Spanish. These assignments were for the most part very straight forword. For each one, we needed to infroduce ourselves, ask how the other was doing, and then we would ask each other questions relating to the chapter in question. Thanks to these assignments, I have been able to practice having a two way conversation in spanish which forced me to learn that much more. It was difficult at first as going from speaking one language all day, every day to know having conversations in an other language you have been learning for only a few weeks or months can be extreamly stressful and unsettling, but it was an assignment that I needed to help me learn how to form proper sentences when speaking.
