After reflecting on Habitat for Humanity’s goal and mission, have your values, opinions, and/or beliefs about the importance of health changed or grown? Be specific.
My opinions on basic human rights have always been incredibly strong. I believe all humans no matter the income, race, sexuality, or ethnicity, every person deserves to have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and the best care for their health. So, my opinions and belief have definitely not changed when researching the habitat for humanity organization because I have always loved what they are doing, and researching them has made me value their work even more.
Thinking about the community partner:
How do these services relate to your intended career field?
Habitat for Humanity relates to nursing because both help people who are in need.
What Degree Program (other than your current major) could it relate to?
Habitat for Humanity could relate to social work because many people who are social workers focus on people who don’t have the best resources like Habitat for Humanity and find them homes as well as the organization.
Would you choose to pursue social work as a parallel major?
I personally don’t think I would pursue social work as an intended degree.
Why or why not?
I don’t think my heart could be able to handle seeing individuals in different situations every day. With nursing, yes, there will be some bad days but you will also have some good days seeing a patient get better or something, but I feel like with social work it just might be a bad day after bad day.
