Organizations typically attempt to establish an atmosphere of conformity and teamwork to achieve the maximum productivity that creates a healthy corporate culture. Whether your organization or business is big or small, deviant behavior can occur just about anywhere, sabotaging the effort. The definition of workplace deviance is a planned, purposeful, and hateful attempt to disrupt an organization. Managers need to be mindful of these things that may come their way and take care of the deviant behavior manifestations to take preventive measures. Cyber technology has created opportunities for people in the workplace to partake in deviant behavior digitally. Data breaches and hacking can happen in any workplace, especially private information vital for the organization can be leaked. Cyber technology has created workplace deviance because it makes it easier for these deviances to occur due to the  technology available and how almost anything can be accessible from a computer. Workplace deviance usually depends on the type of person and the availability of information or security level implemented into the system.

Abuse of a business’s property is another form of workplace deviance. Employees who use their work computers accessing social media can allow hackers to attack the business’s system. Using business computers for personal use can create a window for hackers. Employees can also leak passwords to other coworkers who can cause damage to the business. Another type of workplace deviance is bribery. While this instance is diminutive compared to the others, it can happen. If another company is competing or wants to conduct sabotage or espionage, bribing an employee for files or information is easy to do. This can be prevented with loyalty and security, such as non-remote logins and critical logs, or ensuring employees don’t bring their personal hardware into their work environment. An employee has to be constantly on their toes to fight and catch any cyber-attack that the company may face. Slacking off can allow hackers to attack undetected causing a lot of damage to the business. Educating employees is important also because if they are not properly educated, then the business will be at a high risk.
