Workplace deviance is very common in every work environment. It could be described as any behavior that threatens the well-being of the staff and organizations. The introduction of cyber technologies has paved a way for employees to participate in workplace deviance activities. Company provided network and technology has granted employees the opportunity to misuse workplace resources for their own beneficial needs including contacting family and friends while on the job, shopping, surfing the internet or even downloading unauthorized data especially by crooked employees. Research has shown that such activities cause corporations huge losses in revenue and slows down the constant productivity of the organization. The use of surveillance could be described by the majority as a cyber security protection measure however in this scenario, it gives employees the chance to exploit surveillance systems and any other monitoring systems in an attempt to gain access to unauthorized information and invade privacy in the long run. Studies have shown that the more freedom and less restriction a company has the more likely it is for employees to abuse workplace technology. In a working environment information gets passed around just from regular conversations. Unauthorized disclosure of information could be considered workplace deviance in this scenario. Employees may leak or disclose important company information intentionally or unintentionally. Giving the opportunity cyber technology has provided, unauthorized disclosure of information should be a very common situation in terms of workplace deviance. Organizations whose productivity rely strictly on the use of cyber technology should try to enforce the use of computer monitoring software especially for organizations who partake in remote work. Remote work gives workers the opportunity to work in a more private location rather than a traditional corporate office or organization building. This paves a way for workers to exploit different ways in which they could abuse company resources and partake in workplace deviance.
