I have previously written a resume, but I have never sent one out to a “job”. I am a student-athlete here at ODU and have been a student-athlete since middle school. With that being said, I haven’t had much time to fit in an outside job alongside everything else. I have however written a resume to show what skills I obtained outside of being an athlete. Networking and being multifaceted are really important with being an athlete, and being well-rounded will make you stand out a lot more. On my resume, I have included my marketable traits and skills and it has gotten me multiple summer internships in which I did excel in. I was instructed to bring my resume to a meeting full of different internship opportunities and was able to do a summer internship with Elizabeth Rivers Crossing. Overall, I would say my experience with writing a resume has been successful for the time that I did use it, but after reading “What Color is your Parachute?” I understand ways to make a resume look better and ways to stick out for future employment opportunities. With there being so many resume templates on Google, I believe that people have become lazy when making a resume and just adding “skills” in which generally related to the job and nothing that would separate them from any other candidate. Reading “What color is your Parachute?” helped me understand the importance of differentiating between the types of skills and traits needed to have a successful resume. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
