One major that ODU offers that relates to cybersecurity is engineering. The engineering technology department focuses on analyzing, applying, implementing, and improving existing technologies. It prepares graduates for jobs in product design and development, manufacturing, and different forms of technical support. Engineering has to do with building and making things stronger, and that how I view cybersecurity at times. Another major that ODU offers is computer science. This program prepares students for world of professional software development and other in demand computer science jobs, which include network and database administration and information security analysis. Like cybersecurity, computer science is very computer and tech heavy and share common things like database and software development. Another major that ODU offers is cyber operations. It is an interdisciplinary major that has to do with entire scope of cyber space and it is complementary discipline to cybersecurity. Skills needed in this field are skills in system attack, infiltration, exploitation, defense, and recovery. Being a complementary discipline to cybersecurity, cyber operation and cybersecurity have a lot of similarities being in the cyber world together and both require some of the same skills needed. Lastly, another major that ODU offers is information technology (IT). IT offers extensive knowledge and skills in the area of computerized automation and information systems development. IT also offers technical skills in relational database, computer networking, computer architecture, and computer programming. Just like in cybersecurity, they share similarities in the same skills and you need these necessary skills in both fields.
