There are a few issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals. One issue is privacy and confidentiality. The definition of privacy to Richard Rognehaugh is the right of an individual to keep information about themselves from being disclosed to others; the claim of individuals to be let alone, from surveillance or interference from other individuals, organizations or the government. Information for a patient for example should be released to others only with that patients permission or allowed by law. Privacy is an important issue and should always be confidential information. Another issue that arises when storing electronic information about individuals is security breaches. Security breaches threaten peoples privacy when information is made available to others without the consent of that person or authorization. Security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection software must be included to protect data integrity (ncbi). Another issue is system implementation which is the process of defining how the information should be built. Some problems that comes with system implementation are data quality issues, mindshift issues, and the selection problem. Lastly, another issue is data inaccuracies which results from entering the wrong data. Inaccurate data creation can be the result of mistakes,, can result from wrong data entry processes and can be the result of system errors.
