The image tools in this week’s sandbox have limitless potential in the classroom.
The combination of creative commons image sources such as Pixabay, Unsplash, and Photos for Class and image editing software like Tuxpi, Pixlr, Pizap, and Big Huge Labs allows for students to create a variety of projects.
Students can write their own stories and find images that fit their settings and characters, or perhaps reverse the process and write stories based on images that are found. Students could closely analyze a whole-class short story or novel by finding images that suit the work. Big Huge Labs has a variety of neat features that can be used for fun classroom activities. You can make a series of trading cards, which could make learning about Greek mythical characters a lot of fun. I taught a Greek Mythology unit to an eighth grade class years ago, and they would have absolutely loved that.
Fold Play looks like an incredibly fun website with resources that are perfect for classes across the curriculum, such as art, English, and math. I have saved a few project ideas to do with my children during summer break.
Yes, Foldplay looked really cool. I think there could be some really cool math connections there.
My daughter really likes to do the reverse writing that you mentioned above! She selects a topic, searches the internet for a picture, and then writes about it. Great idea!
I also liked the idea of Foldplay. I usually have my students write Romeo and Juliet as a children’s book. This would make it super easy and clean.
What a great idea! I love the idea of having students turn an adult piece of literature into a children’s book!
