Why am I interested in cybersecurity technology?
I am interested in cybersecurity technologies because of several factors. To start I am in the Virginia National Guard and fell in love with the Army way and the lifestyle. I wanted to still get a degree though and not just go straight to Active duty. Opting to make Cybersecurity my major will open up doors for me in the Army and it will constantly be an in-demand job field in the military. It will also help set me up for life after the Army because in the civilian world as well it will constantly be needed. Having job security at all times and knowing that there will always be work needed lets me not fear of not having work to do. I know that with the advancement of Artificial Intelligence, certain jobs are drying up.
Secondly, I’ve always had an issue with getting bored with an interest or a job because it begins to be routine but with Cybersecurity there will always be something new. As technology grows and progresses there will be new issues for network security so there will always be something new to learn. Also with a plethora of different pathways in the field, there are different things to do.
Thirdly, the reason I took this course was to better understand cyber security. I’ve always been interested in the field but never saw it as a career option for myself. I took some computer science classes in high school and enjoyed learning about programming and different systems but I didn’t understand how they worked and I also was confused with the different terminology I was hearing. As I explored the computer/tech field I found the Ins and Outs of a network interesting. How could someone virtually access all of a person’s information and how do you stop something like that from happening? I realized that the more classes I take in the field the more knowledgeable I am and the more that a passion will develop.
