The four ethical issues that could arise when storing electronic information about people is their privacy, accuracy, property and accessibility. I think that the biggest ethical problem of the four that I just named is people’s privacy. When information is stored in some websites there are conditions that many people do not read. You may think that the personal information that you have submitted is safe, but in reality your information could be getting spread around to different websites. This is why you have to be careful with where you submit your information and what kind of information you’re submitting. Privacy is a big thing for everyone and it can easily be invaded when you store information electronically. The next issue that could arise is the accuracy of the information. It is easy, even if you personally enter the information, there is a chance that you might accidentally forget a letter or accidentally add a letter. This is a major problem because then the information that you did enter correctly could get sent to someone else and then again that is a breach in privacy. When the accuracy of the information is incorrect it can also cause the person to be locked out of wherever or whatever they need to get into. This is a huge problem, someone gave the website permission to have their information and then to get it wrong and have the customer be locked out is ethically wrong. The next ethical issue is property, this deals more with who owns the rights to their private information. Anywhere you store your information online has small fine prints that again everyone should read, but doesn’t. Technically once you submit or finish you never really know where your information could be going to and that is ethically immoral. People are trusting the website with their information. The last one is accessibility, this is an ethical issue because at times it can be hard to easily access the information you have submitted online. Obviously there has to be some type of security system to make sure that your information is in a secure place, but it can be hard to get it back. For example, you might forget your password, but it’s hard to get a new password when you forget the old one. I think that all of these ethical issues all lead back to privacy. Privacy is what people expect, they don’t want their information out in the public.
