Workplace deviance, in group psychology, may be described as the deliberate desire to cause harm to an organization more specifically, a workplace. The concept has become an instrumental component in the field of organizational communication. Workplace deviance is much more likely to happen in the cybersecurity field due to it dealing with the internet majority of the time. It is much easier to deviate online rather than face to face. There is tons of private information available at these companies that would put them at risk if an employee was deviant and decided to leak this information. An example of work deviance in the cybersecurity field would be an employee for a company downloading the companies private info and selling it to other competitors. Doing this would harm the company severely and give their competitors a huge advantage over them. This could lead to the company losing business which means they have to let go of employees. This could also lead to them completely shutting down for good and everyone loses their job. These are the horrendous affects of an employee committing workplace deviance. The technology that we have in todays day and age makes it a lot easier to commit workplace deviance, especially in the cyber security field. The better the tech, the easier it becomes to access certain things that employees should not be accessing. The level of technology we have now could allow for the person committing work deviance for much longer because of all the ways there are to hid yourself or your location. This allows more damage to be done to the companies affected by this, which does good for no one in the long run. Overall, work deviance is not something that people should take place in. There are so many people affected by it that the person doing it isn’t even aware of.
