Fairy tales are timeless, classic stories that have not only been passed down over the generations but have evolved as society has also changed. From a classic retelling of an old story to a twisted adaptation that has made its debut, all these stories convey some type of moral or social norms and values of the culture that is being represented. Most fairy tales even now revolve around important moral obligations that are always abided by. For example, goodness will always triumph over evil or even in the toughest times, never give up and for the young everyone lives happily ever after. As the older tales tend to have a more black and white approach towards ethical thinking. This leads to the main character or characters of the tale to play an impactful egalitarian role that is geared towards a young audience. The movie Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989) is one example in which the main character Kiki is someone that I identify with the most and who positively influenced me. Though this is a Japanese film it the female protagonist Kiki had many qualities about her that I saw in myself especially three years ago. Her character plays a young girl who is leaving home to find her place in the world. It is relatable as the emotions that are portrayed show Kiki learning to take care of herself as she goes through many trials and tribulations that come with living independently for the first time.
