School Life Living with Cats: A typical school day as the only time they seem to want any attention or anything to do with me is when I am studying and doing homework for all my classes.

Core life values:

  1. Optimism
  2. Leader
  3. Responsibility
  4. Growth/ Challenge
  5. Knowledge/ Learning

These five personal life values are important to me as a University student, trying to pursue a career in the psychological field of businesses.  As an individual I have experienced a few life changing events that have led me to where I stand today. When I first started the journey to college, I had no knowledge of anything as I would be the first generation in my family to attend.  My parents gave me the foundation for pushing myself to strive and grow in what I choose. At that moment I did not know what I wanted to do in life and even throughout high school what I wanted to be when I “grew up” constantly changed. My parents wanted me to learn on my own what I wanted to do, but nonetheless they pushed me to have a strong working ethic and that school was an important first step towards my future. One experience that altered my view drastically was when my grandfather passed away. When I was helping my grandmother take care of my sick grandfather and I first started to wonder if I wanted to follow nursing as a career path, being on the fence I started college following a degree in general studies. Before I was able to start planning my future goals my grandfather passed away and those intentions of nursing left with him. After some time to mourn I had to make some critical decisions as most of my general education classes were done. Instead of mulling over all the negative aspects I choose to look towards the future with an open mind, knowing I wanted to help people in some capacity. The events of my grandfathers passing is the reason optimism is the first core value as it is held above all the others. As I continue to challenge myself to learn new things and grow towards the future, I hold to the belief that experiences are what we make of them, prevailing even in the darkest times is how we gain the knowledge to move.
