Blog 9

During this semester there was an abundance of information to take from and learn. However, the top three e-portfolio assignments that stuck out to me the most.  First, was when I was able to discuss how I viewed the Ted Talk on how ads see women in blog six. Second, the most recent blog post was based on an article about sexual desires and mating, which in turn led me to believe there are some connections with the Assignment Takeaway that I did on styles of love. Lastly, was the Assignment Takeaway that was about prejudice and racism.

It was intriguing to learn, after googling a few advertisements, that women are over sexualized in advertisements where it is unnecessary. I learned that men are not excluded from being sexualized in ads either but the views on the way these ads are portrayed vary across genders. Over the last decade it seems to have become almost normal to see women “baring it all”. From being naked with a purse on the back to a car insurance billboard having women’s legs with her pants at the ankle, these are some ways that advertisement agencies use manipulation which plays a major role in product ads.  In social psychology advertisements are influential on individuals’ behaviors and attitudes as they have progressed over the years.

Next, the latest blog I wrote was based on an article on sexual desires/mating and ways women and men upset one another. It was based around the sexual interests that each has and how each party goes about fulfilling them, whether it be with their partner or someone from the outside. This assignment reminded me of one of the love styles, Ludus from the Assignment Takeaway that I had done. The Ludus style compares to this article as individuals view their relationship as they are playing a match making game and is full of deception and manipulation of partners. It also places a greater importance on physical characteristics of a mate as does the article.

Lastly, based off the Assignment Takeaway I did on prejudice and stereotyping, I found that the topic has different in Cross Cultural Psychology vs. Social Psychology. In cross-cultural psych prejudice and stereotypes are more focused on gender whereas in social psych it is based on groups of people along with gender and race.
