Journal Entry #4

Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

Technologies both reflect and alter the cultural and social settings in which they are used. They are influenced by current conditions and driven (or not) by decisions made in response to them; once in use, they can have a significant impact on future decisions. Technology analysis is best viewed through the lens of political economics (in the broadest sense). Nowadays, technology has a big influence on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Technology has no effect on this starting with the most fundamental physiological needs. Yet going forward, it will play a part in your personal and professional safety. Professional security may be offered through a professional network. Social networking websites and Android mobile applications undoubtedly satisfy social needs. Real publications and respect might satisfy an individual’s need for esteem. This relationship may also be seen as satisfying our desire for respect in other ways. Through engaging in social initiatives and fostering global connectivity, needs are actualized.

Phycological needs can not be met digitally. Safety needs can be met digitally by sharing little on the media and protecting your personal information. belongingness and love needs can be made digitally through people you meet online. They can also be met by allowing us to communicate with our loved ones digitally when they are far away. Esteem meets can be met by getting recognition on social media or being showered with compliments or gratitude online when sharing accomplishments for example. Self actualization need is met when someone is reaping the benefits of digital sharing and is overall happy and satisfied with their digital footprint and their creative impact.
