Review the articles linked with each individual motive. Rank the
motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense
(being 1) to the least sense (being 7). Explain why you rank each
motive the way you rank it.
Rankings
1. Multiple reasons
I chose Multiple reasons for rank 1 because many of the motives underneath can come together to form the most logical motive for a hacker as reasons can be complex.
2. Money
I chose Money for rank 2, because money makes people do the craziest things. It is a huge motivator for many of the actions that people make in the world, so in hacking, it just makes sense for someone to want money for their skills.
3. Revenge
I chose Revenge for rank 3, because revenge comes from anger and people have murdered other people over such a reason. Many people morals would not go to the lengths of ending a life, but ironically fine with trying to hurt someone online. Also, cybercriminals have an easier time getting away with such revenge over doing it in person.
4. Political
I chose Political for rank 4, because almost everyone has some type of political ideology in their head. Politics conjured many emotions that can be negative and have someone enact upon it.
5. Recognition
I chose Recognition for rank 5, because many people love attention or they want people to know who is responsible for the actions they did. This can help push political ideologies or make themselves known for others to try to scout their talents for money.
6. Entertainment
I chose Entertainment for rank 6, because their are many things that people do in our world that is stemmed from someone having “fun.” It can be an adrenaline rush or makes them feel accomplished because they have a certain skillset that many people do not have.
7. Boredom
I chose Boredom last on the rankings, because this is closely related to entertainment but I believe that there is so much to do in life when bored besides trying to do cybercrime.
