Journal Entry Week 7 – Explain how the following three memes relate to human-centered cybersecurity

Phishing is one way cybercriminals trick individuals into giving them sensitive information, downloading viruses, and/or clicking malicious links. Human-centered cybersecurity can address phishing emails by understanding human behavior/decision making and creating the proper security measures to avoid it. Therefore, the following meme above shows a man having a conversation with a few other people. He is explaining to them how phishing emails can be spotted and why they should be avoided. He then provides the proper training and awareness along with simulated phishing exercises to help his team become more comfortable with dealing with phishing scams. By focusing on human-centered cybersecurity, organizations can reduce the effectiveness of phishing scams and enhance their overall security.

This meme explains in a funny/cute way on why checking for vulnerabilities is important. People within the Cybersecurity field must have a special set of skills to notice vulnerabilities within systems that’s why I compared it to a dog’s strong sense of smell. Vulnerabilities are often a result of human factors like inadequate training, behavioral biases that influence your security decisions, or even human errors where somebody accidentally overlooks one minor detail. Human-centered cybersecurity and vulnerability management important when it comes to addressing human factors. Some of the ways to address vulnerabilities include incident response planning, continuous security monitoring, and regular vulnerability assessments.

Human-centered cybersecurity refers to the human factors within cybersecurity and understanding/adapting to human behavior to help build/enforce a security culture. Which then empowers employees and reduces human errors. Above shows a woman who got an email and is feeling extremely happy. She has been working in the Cybersecurity field for a few years now, learning human behaviors, and working hard to ensure the security of her organization. She has worked extremely hard and had studied the human aspect of cybersecurity to better her skills, she was finally offered a management position. I added this since human-related cybersecurity can really help you better understand the motivations behind most cybercriminals can help you greatly within the cybersecurity field, helping you move up within your organization. Not everyone within the field learns cybersecurity social sciences, and it can be a little tricky to understand, especially the psychology that’s behind it. However, it’s beneficial to understand so you can possibly predict what may happen when it comes to implementing new frameworks and other measures when it comes to cybersecurity.
