In order to complete the social media persona assignment, I have chosen to utilize my fitness page. I started this page back in 2022 as a way to hold myself accountable for my fitness regimen. During this time, I figured that using social media as a way to motivate myself was the best option for me. The purpose of creating this persona was an attempt at gaining social media traction, due to my interest in social media sciences. My approach was being honest about my limited knowledge of fitness and using that to my advantage. I ended up getting in touch with a notable fitness influencer who gave me some starting tips for fitness and social media.

I kept contact with this influencer as she was a NASM certified instructor who knew how to brand herself and her content. So, I created my page and started being honest about my weight and goals. Of course, no one wants to put the bad news online. However, I wanted to be truthful to the few people that followed me. As a social media user, I am familiar with seeing other fitness influencers that end up lying about how they achieved their “end result.” I knew this was not the approach I wanted to take. For this reason, I posted my exacts workouts for others to see. I also would regularly post stories of me getting on the scale, even if I didn’t like the number.

My approach was simple. I was honest and vulnerable with what I posted. However, I wanted to keep a professional demeanor in the content I posted. I did not want my content to come off as sexually suggestive or attention seeking, like some “fitness influencers” promote. I wanted a tasteful approach to fitness that aligned with my values and ethics. This also want posting meal prepping videos that were cost effective and not wasteful. Lastly, I want to touch on why Instagram was my channel of choice. I chose Instagram due to my familiarity with it.

As we all know, Instagram continues to revamp their user accessibility and efficiency. With the popularity of Instagram Reels, I figured I could use this platform to quickly get my content out there. My second choice was TikTok, however, I felt as though TikTok had become oversaturated with fitness content. There had also been a scandal on TikTok where users felt like they could not trust popular fitness influencers. This was due to some of them lying about not doing their workouts. Needless to say, I felt like Instagram was the safer option if I wanted to be successful in my content creation.
