As I reflect on my sports media consumption over the past five years, I realize how much it has changed. Five years ago, my sports media consumption relied on my accessibility to a large TV. I was not interested in consuming sports media online whatsoever. This was simply because I preferred to watch all types of sports in a familiar setting. Five years ago, I was deeply uninterested in sports betting, this has also changed significantly. Lastly, the volume of my sports consumption has had a major increase in the last five years. Back in 2020, I would typically exclusively watch my two teams. Those teams being Alabama Crimson Tide and the Eagles. I believe this was because I also had a disinterest in sports betting. Since my sports betting has increased, it has caused me to carefully watch most NFL teams. Now, I pay attention to what is going on in the NFL world since that is my area of interest. In today’s sports climate & communication field, there is a general focus on speculation. Since my sports media consumption has shifted to an online medium, with the use of the NFL and ESPN app, I tend to see stories and posts that use a gossip-toned headline to catch readers attention. There has also been more of focus on how sports media interacts with popular culture. For example, Taylor Swift has brought a totally new demographic into football. This is something I see being reported on sports channels more often than not. My point is-sports channels have leaned into popular culture in recent times. I anticipate that in the next five years, sports mediums will become a more interactive space. With the rise of sports betting, popular culture influence, and marketing, I foresee the sports world becoming more accessible and influential. Finally, if I could change one thing about the sports world, I would choose to remove the paywall from certain streaming services. I know that major sports organizations already make indescribable amounts of money, therefore I believe the paywalls are unnecessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
