Journal # 6

1.   Describe five businesses or non-profits that have been created in my field.

Non-profit Cybersecurity businesses’ purpose is to spread awareness of all non-profit Cybersecurity businesses and how important they are. For example, the Anti-Phishing Working Group was brought together to spread awareness of Phishing, and how to stop becoming a victim of Phishing. The center of internet security is a non-profit whose mission is to make the world a safer place. Center for threat-informed defense, is a non-profit whose mission is to the mission is to “advance the state of the art and the state of the practice in threat-informed defense globally.” Cloud Security Alliance, the goal is to “promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing, and to provide education on the uses of cloud computing to help secure all other forms of computing.” Lastly, Consumer Reports is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to independent product testing and more.

2. What is your overall perspective on the entrepreneurship experience?

My perspective is that it takes a leader to be an Entrepreneur. Furthermore, you can’t be a follower because you have to be creative, innovative, and just simply different from the norm. An entrepreneur needs to be mentally strong, and able to carry a heavy load because a lot of their success is predicated on them. Also, I feel like being an entrepreneur can be very rewarding, but it can also demand a lot; which leads to sacrifices having to be made. Lastly, an entrepreneur has to be a critical thinker that’s able to take risks and make hard decisions.

3. How did entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?

Entrepreneurship prepared me in ways to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions in many ways. It prepared me to show initiative and to always put my right foot forward. Also, entrepreneurship taught me to be confident, because of my preparation. Entrepreneurship also prepped me to be a leader and to think for myself. Lastly, it showed me that when you are good in any position in business it should positively affect others not just yourself.

4.  What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?

The use of more visual aid could help improve the experience because some people are visual learners. More forms of interactive learning could also improve this course. Furthermore, I know this experience would’ve been improved for me if I were able to attend the class in person. This Entrepreneurship class could maybe even be improved by incorporating field trips to certain corporations. Lastly, incorporating Ted talks of successful entrepreneurs for the students to listen to, so they can pick their brains and learn further.

5. What’s next for you?

Well, my first step is to complete all of my Summer classes and pass them with flying colors. Next, I plan to do well in my courses in the Fall, so I can graduate this upcoming December. After graduating I plan to further my education in my major by earning certifications on my own time. Also, I would like to become a Cybersecurity professional a couple of years down the line at the company I work for right now. Lastly. I want to take my revenue from that venture and invest it into my own business one day.
