CYSE 301

 Cybersecurity Techniques and Operations

In this course we worked through several different cybersecurity modules, some of which included Traffic Tracing, Firewall Setup & Network Scanning, Penetration Testing, and Password Cracking. We also completed different lab assignments relating to each module with the goal of becoming familiar with cybersecurity tools. One assignment I want to focus on is our Lab Assignment #4 Ethical Hacking (Windows Server 2008). I feel that this assignment represents the course overall and demonstrates several of the techniques we had been learning.

After completing CYSE 301 I can confidently say that it improved my technical skills. Specifically, this assignment taught me a great deal about vulnerability scanning, metasploit framework, and setting up reverse TCP shells. After practicing more with these tools I went further and set up a home lab of virtual machines to continue experimenting. It is my hope that this knowledge can help with my career down the road as an ethical hacker or penetration tester. This experience demonstrates many of the technical skills I have learned at ODU.

The artifact from CYSE 301 I chose to upload is my 4th Lab Assignment. This assignment walks through the steps for setting up a backdoor into a Windows Server and using it to harvest data. The lab report comes with screenshots showing what I did as well as a brief explanation for each step. My hope is that this will show the audices the type of technical skills we are learning at ODU.
