312: French Reading and Writing

The purpose of this class was to learn the French grammatical rules of the written language and develop a sense of how to write properly in French. In my class, we read short shories by French authors, decipher their meanings, and then write something similar for our classwork. My favorite aspect of writing in this class was the professor, Dr. Black, had us write four different drafts of the same paper, but increasing the word count each time. I would start off with a 50 word paper, then increase it until it became 300 words. The beauty of having different drafts was that students could see their mistakes before they turn in the last draft, which was graded. In this class, I also learned different verb tenses used specifically when writing a story. By the end of the semester, I was confident in my writing abilities in French.

The first example of my written work is the first draft of the semester. The example underneath is the final draft I sent for a grade. As you can see, there is much progress in the sentence variety and verb usage.
