Making Connections
“Old Dominion University’s LeADERS program connects students to courses and real world experiences in the areas of: Leadership, Academic Internship, Diversity, Entrepreneurship, Research, or Service Learning. This LeADERS ePortfolio shares how my experiences in the areas of Diversity, Research, and Leadership have supported my personal and professional development.
Reflecting Back
-
- I joined LeADERS because I wanted to enrich the courses I was taking at ODU. LeADERS courses are specifically chosen because they enhance learning experiences and will be a good advantage when searching for future jobs in my career field.
- The LeADERS courses I enrolled in required me to think critically and really push myself as a student in person. They were not easy courses to pass and I see these as good challenges to have because it helped me learn more about myself as a student and individual. I got past my hesitation of public speaking by taking these courses and LeADERS is the reason why I took them.
- One of my successes was creating a research project about student satisfaction at ODU. It was a very important project because it helps faculty understand how to better help student’s needs. I was also able to do multiple presentations that were very successful and become a better public speaker.
- The LeADERS experiences all connect by enhancing my professional personality. I learned transferable skills that will help me in all aspects of life and career. Overall, my LeADERS experience gave me an edge because I learned course content while also building employable skills.

Looking Forward
-
- After graduation, I hope to apply to become a QMHP-T and get me necessary hours at a qualifying institution. I plan on apply to Roger Williams University in Fall 2021 to get my masters in Forensic Psychology. I hope to find experience at behavioral health facilities to build experience so I can later open my own facility for youth.
- LeADERS has positively impacted by career goals and the courses have reignited my desire to pursue my goals. I realized that I am passionate about what I want to do especially after taking my diversity requirement (blacks, crime, and justice). It has heightened my professional abilities and gave me assets in attaining a future career.
