The class I completed for this requirement is PSYC 303 (Industrial/Organizational Psychology).
Course description: An application of psychological principles and research to human behavior in work settings. Among the topics covered are personnel selection, training, and evaluation; employee motivation and job satisfaction; and organizational leadership and theory.
I am taking this course during my final semester and this course was only offered online. Online classes are structured a bit differently, but I still learned a lot from this course. I had to do weekly quizzes and discussion board activities that was based on that week’s course content.
I was able to learn how to plan and organize my work since the course allowed me to make my own schedule. How well I did in the course was based entirely on how I applied myself and it gave me a sense of accountability. Being able to stay organized and prioritize your work is a great skill for future employers. Since the quizzes and discussion boards were both due every Sunday, I had to develop an effective way to complete my work efficiently. I would spend certain time blocks studying and set aside specific times to take the quizzes or other activities. Having discipline is a future skill I will use when completely work projects for my future employers. I believe I am able to complete my work in a timely manner and create a plan for completing projects.
Work Example
In the course, I had to reflect on chapters discussed throughout the course. One of the modules required me to reflect on working as a team and apply material learned.
- I am in a suicide prevention class and my professor created a group of us to find a way to prevent suicide in a certain group. My team would be described as a project team because we were put together to solve a problem. Once we turn in the final project, our team will disband. A team input would be that each member will complete a specific task to combine for the final project. Our output would be the performance of our team and the resulting grade we will receive. One of the special issues in my team is team feedback. Since I have never met my group members prior to being in a group with them, it is hard to effectively communicate.
