SPAN 102

Reflection

This semester in Spanish 102 course I have developed more of a understanding of Spanish pronunciation along with spelling and grammar. I have learned how to confidently say basic Spanish sentences and ask questions such as; “Hi, what is your name?”, “How are you feeling?” and “How is the weather today?” I have also begin to understand how Spanish grammar rules work although I still struggle a bit with that a bit. Spanish 102 has helped me expand my Spanish vocabulary and after looking back on the semester my progress has motivated me to continue to review this material and continue my study of this language into Spanish 103 in the Fall of 2023!

Artifacts

Exploring Culture

Personally, having the chance to speak directly to a person from and currently in a Spanish speaking country made me realize that life in other countries aren’t very different regarding their everyday life. We all share similar interests such as food and sports along with daily activities like working out, attending school and going to work/having a job. It is really cool to be able to speak directly with people who have had maybe different experiences than myself yet we still have ended up living similar day to day lives!

Engaging in Communities

I believe direct engagement in our community is important because it gives us the chance to unify as a group of people sharing our space respectfully. I believe it is also important in order to effectively protect the people around you.

Interpersonal Communication

This semester we participated in two 15 minute Talk-abroad work shops where we had to call someone from and currently in a Spanish speaking country. I will not lie I was extremely nervous for these assignments but as the minutes passed it became easier to understand and respond to the person I called. By the second call I felt very confident in my Spanish speaking abilities. In fact, I do not think I have ever spoken more fluent Spanish or understood Spanish as well as I did throughout that conversation.

Presentational Speaking

In class we had to read questions or answer question in Spanish along with understand and communicate with our professor and classmates in Spanish. I believe this immersive method of communication/teaching was highly effective and I have gained a better grasp on Spanish pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.

Presentational Writing

The writing assignments we were given were usually the easier assignments for me personally. I enjoyed and appreciated the gradual increase on writing difficulty provided through the homework given on LingoLearning.

Interpretive Reading

This semester we read a handful of short sentences and material. Most of this material consisted of questions in which we would respond to. I believe this improved my reading and writing abilities along with seeing grammar consistently. Sometimes it became frustrating but LingroLearning usually provided some English instructions or help.
