Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

This page will provide assignments throughout my semester in Spanish 102 at Old Dominion University.

Exploring Culture

Food plays a big role in a place’s culture, not only in the living styles of people from there but in foreigners’ perceptions of places as well. For this particular discussion board, we watched a video about popular dishes in Spanish speaking countries. We explained what we saw within the video and which dishes we would like to try.

Engaging in Communities

La familia is very important in the Hispanic culture. In this discussion board, we read the article, “Importance of Family Structures in Hispanic Families” and compared those roles to that of our own families.

Interpersonal Communication

My partner on TalkAbroad was Trinidad Angeles Bucciarelli from Argentina.

The first TalkAbroad was related to our family. We discussed who is apart of my family, their characteristics and qualities.

The second TalkAbroad was related to food. We shared our favorite foods and meals and even dove into talking about Thanksgiving.

I really enjoyed this assignment and the challenge it brought to my language. It was a stress-free adventure and really interesting to be able to partially communicate with someone close to my age but in a different country.

Presentational Speaking

The purpose of this communication assignment is to evaluate your pronunciation, to give you feedback to improve and to see if you are understanding how to pronounce consonants and vowels in Spanish.

Presentational Writing

It seems that gender tends to be a factor to determine your future career. After watching the video, Y tú, ¿qué quieres ser de mayor?” we used the discussion board to compare if gender determines job stereotypes and if there were any differences within that stereotype in Spain vs America.
