How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Technology is constantly evolving and we as people have evolved with it. This evolution of technology has done great for society but it can also cause some to deviate away from rules and try to use technology for in a disgraceful manner. There is an abundance of information put online everyday some of that information more valuable than others and there are some bad actors who would benefit from getting this information. Companies often keep a lot of customer information, this can include simple information such as names and emails to social security numbers. It is could be easy for a worker with bad intent to take this information and use it for their own gain whether that be financial gain or even revenge depending upon the situation. Credit card information could be taken to commit fraud and other personal information could even be used to commit a crime such as identity theft. It is typically believed that we can trust certain parties with information but there is always a risk of that information being used in a bad manner. Although there are some who may not have taken a certain job with the original plan of stealing information but when such information is easily accessible it can be tempting to use. Though a customers or clients information isn’t the only information that could be used negatively, co-workers also have to be careful of what information they have out in the open. In the workplace there are often tools such as notepads or sticky notes with information such as log ins and in the wrong hands it could negatively impact someone. For example, an angry coworker may know where you store the password to your computer is located and use it to sabotage your work. All in all technology can be amazing but there is a right and wrong and as technology makes certain actions easier to perform there will always be a bad actor who attempts to take advantage.
