1. How do engineers make cyber networks safer?

An engineer is someone who is responsible for designing machines and systems for a specific purpose and also maintain these systems and machines. Engineers aid in making cyber networks safer by identifying threats and vulnerabilities within a system or software. They then use their skills to make solutions to defends against threats and vulnerabilities such as hacking or insider threats. An example of something an engineer would be responsible for is penetration testing. Penetration testing is an authorized attack performed on a computer system to test the effectiveness and reliability of the security already in place. Without these engineers it would be harder to keep systems safe and running smoothly.

2. What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

Criminal Justice entails learning about the social and psychological causes of criminal behavior. This relates tp cybercrime in the fact that it is still a crime committed just in an online way, so this still applies. You hear these discussed in various other disciplines such as computer science, engineering, and psychology. The disciplines computer science and engineering are the ones that may be more obvious as when discussing technology you will need to mention things such as cybercrime which as I’ve already stated relates to criminal justice. There are other STEM courses as well that this would be discussed in and the same goes for criminology. The evolution of technology also means the evolution of certain types of crimes that are now committed online such as cyberstalking or cyberharrassment. Nextly, I did also mention psychology, as I mentioned earlier when you are studying criminal justice you review the psychological causes of criminal behavior, and psychology as we know is the study of the mind and behaviors. These disciplines all tie into each other and ate vital, you can not discuss psychology without discussing criminal justice at some point, and you cant discuss criminology without discussing the technological side of crime or cybercrime.
