Music education is meant to be transformative, never stagnant. It is essential for the study of music to impact students by constantly changing, developing, and deepening their perspectives and perceptions of music. Developing students’ perspectives of music broadens their views and perceptions of the world around them. 

The act of listening to and understanding music is just as crucial to a student’s music education as the act of performing music.

It is imperative that all students are represented in the classroom and curriculum. Repertoire and learning materials should represent a variety of backgrounds and experience, not just a single-mindset.

Musicality should always be at the forefront of music education. Music is not just simply drilling fundamentals and technique. Guiding students to be expressive, musical, intentful musicians is of the utmost importance.

Students deserve to have opportunities for making choices in their day-to-day education, and should be encouraged to take responsibility for their learning.
