Mid-Semester Reflection

Study Habits
I dedicate about two hours every week to each of my classes studying. I do this so that I can have a good amount of time for each class to sit down and review the materials for that week. I feel like my grades do reflect the amount of time I study because if I study more, I make better grades and if I study less, I make a slightly lower grade. This reigns true mostly for
sociology and chemistry because those are the classes that need the most amount of study time and if I don’t give the right amount of time for studying I can see in my grade that I didn’t try as hard as I should have. I do not have a problem with distractions while studying because I have my own room so I can be alone and isolated. I also find that I am the most alert in the morning after I have had breakfast so that is when I try to get the most work and studying done.

Learning Style
The most common study technique I use is just reading over my notes a couple of times and if the material is hard to learn I will make a quizlet so that I can use the various features that comes with it. I have not tried using flashcards because those take longer to make, and I do not like wasting the paper on something I will only use for a week. I think using quizlet works best for me because I can use it like flashcards, a matching game, normal column notes, and even make my own personalized test. Most classes I can simply read my notebook and that be enough, but for chemistry I will do practice problems to prepare for tests.

Transition to College
College has been mostly what I expected. With COVID I knew it would be different so I am not too surprised that there is not much to do on campus, but I have made a good group of friends and we are always together so that helps. I thought there would be more food options open on the weekends, but most of the Webb is closed. What surprised me the most about college is how easy it has been so far. I have not been stressed about classes or my workload, so I am happy about that. I think my favorite thing about campus is how much nature there is around even though we are in a city. They have a ton of plants everywhere and I really like that feature. I think the toughest challenge has been not being able to meet as many people because of COVID
restrictions.

Connecting to Campus
I have had some problems with my chemistry lab questions because when I get something wrong, they do not tell me what I got wrong so I can never correct it. To fix this problem I could use chemistry tutoring so that maybe they could guide me in the right direction. I have a lot of friends that are in a few of my classes, so we all have helped each other with various things throughout the semester like homework problems or clarifying something that was confusing. I have not attended an interest meeting for any clubs yet, but I would like to join the tennis club if they can play due to COVID restrictions.
