A critical aspect of learning is incorporating students’ prior knowledge. This semester I incorporated students’ prior experience, in relation to travel, to teach a lesson about calendars and the importance of travel planning. The students collaborated to gather specific information about traveling to different Spanish speaking countries while learning to use vocabulary in the target language. Employing essential components such as technology, research, and small group discussion in the proximal zone of development gives students an opportunity to discover new information but also provides them a practical experience that they can use outside of the classroom.
