Learning Environment

Providing a classroom that displays a respectful, positive, safe, student-centered environment is conducive to learning. That type of learning environment is exactly what my practicum teacher provided in the classroom through the practices of Restorative Justice. I was able to observe and learn new communication skills that helped me to develop positive relationships with the students. Teacher responsibility and leadership in relation to behavior and academics is vital in building teacher-student relationships. This semester that responsibility and leadership was modeled not only by my practicum teacher but also by other staff that I observed during circle sessions. That kind of relationship building promotes positive changes in teacher expectations and student behavior and is exactly what I want to display in my classroom.
