In this assignment, I compared the values of how much I express six different subcategories of love (eros, ludus, storge, pragma, mania, and agape). I found that I varied from the norm in every category a significant amount, showing that my feelings about love are different from what others typically feel. Besides teaching me how I varied from my peers in terms of how I see love, it showed me how to analyze numerical data. In other scenarios, I’ve been more inclined to use a spreadsheet in scenarios with long strings of data. Through learning how to use several spreadsheet functions through this assignment and other scientific classes, I’ve been able to compare data much more efficiently.
Additionally, this material helped me to reflect on how my personal beliefs of love affects my relationships. Being able to see that my values vary from the norm has helped me to realize that sometimes incompatibility in relationships stems from value differences rather than the actions we take in them (although they’re often linked). Also, my attitudes could easily change after a relationship, also, just like my attitudes in platonic relationships. Even in just a platonic sense, my values effect how I interact with my friends when discussing our romantic relationships.
I chose this image because this assignment has pushed me to learn how to use spreadsheets in a useful manner, which I’ve since used in tracking my expenses and in analyzing data for other classes.
