Although the course wasn’t explicitly structured to teach me the objectives that I outlined for myself, I found that I’ve largely achieved them. Especially in terms of discrimination, I’ve learned concepts that I’ve carried into my sociology courses and out into my everyday life. I don’t necessarily find that I’ve discovered why people have struggled in past relationships, as that desire is very specific, but I’ve learned how people may be more prosocial or popular in comparison to others, which I feel as if is similar to the idea I had initially. I also feel as if I achieved the course objectives, and particularly found the theories and research behind our inclination to become friends with people that are similar to us to be more interesting than I originally anticipated.
If I were to take this course again, I would make a larger effort to connect my reading to real world concepts in my notes. Additionally, I would make a larger effort to read my notes out load to myself as I studied, as I stopped doing that fairly early on. My time management has gotten substantially better after taking this class, however I’ve found that I still need to find ways to study that work efficiently. Rather than just putting aside time to study, I need to make a point to use different strategies, including the ones I just listed, to discover what works the best for me personally.
This image represents me giving myself a pat on the back! Also, it represents that there’s more efficient ways to do what I’m currently doing, so I should look into experimenting with new things to find what works the best for me.
