I’ve always considered the evolutionary perspective when thinking about sex conflict like this, as I’ve also seen statistics that men typically like younger woman while women usually like older men. Even if it’s possible to have a family composed of an older woman and older man, societal norms circle around biological traits, making me find a value in seeing what is true of the evolutionary perspective and what is speculation.
Men and women communicate differently, so they both are capable of upsetting each other through differences in how they use language. Women may seem too “picky” and men may seem more “carefree”. For example, a woman may spend a long time working on her appearance in the morning in comparison to their partner, which could cause an argument if they can’t understand their differences.
At their worst, a woman may be perceived as “overly sentimental” whereas a man may be perceived as “uncaring”. In a situation, a woman may bring feel up an anniversary date and be mad that the man forgot the date.
In this photo, a woman asks for directions. There may be a biological component to why men are considered to be more spatially aware than women, but additionally they are socialized to be very independent, making it a social taboo to ask for directions. This could cause strife in a relationship if the woman sees the man as “stubborn” for this.
Higher standards are placed on women in our society, pushing them to put more time and effort into their shopping and daily routines. This can become a point of contention when men aren’t expected and typically don’t put as much time into their outfits and looks as women do.
