- Review the NICE Workforce Framework. Are there certain areas that you would want to focus your career on? Explain which areas would appeal the most to you and which would appeal the least.
Cybersecurity is a vast workforce containing different niches and roles to protect information systems individuals, organizations, and industries use daily. Based on the NICE Workforce Framework, my main special categories that I would like to focus on in my career would be Investigate, Operate/Maintain, and Protect/Defend. Personally, I have grown up in a military background and have grown respect for law enforcement involved with cybersecurity. Although some categories are different, I would like to still focus my skills for law enforcement and work a part of some sort of federal agency. Under the Investigate category, my specialty areas would be Digital Forensics. Digital Forensics personnel help present, collect, process, and analyze computer-related evidence in support of law enforcement investigations. In the Operate/Maintain category, I would focus on network engineering or network services to manage networks or firewalls to protect the transmission of information between internal networks. Finally, the last specialty area I would like to focus upon in the Protect/Defend category is working with Incident Response. Incident Response personnel work in urgent situations within an organization to protect and mitigate immediate cyber incidents to further help defend a given network. While all categories are interesting in their own respective area, I personally appeal to the Oversee/Govern category the least because of some of the principles it focuses on. In this category, many specialty areas focus on Project management and Strategic Planning that feels a lot less technical and more collaborative roles apart from a team, something that doesn’t interest me.
