The provided article was highly informative and sheds light on a subdomain in cybersecurity known as social cybersecurity. The concept of social cybersecurity focuses on the scientific principles that achieves two main objectives: Analyze changes in human behavior impacted by society and build/maintain a cybersecurity infrastructure to combat against adversaries that may influence human behavior. Compared to traditional cybersecurity techniques, social cybersecurity focuses on “hacking” other humans that targets society and the individuals that reside in it. This approach uses more of a psychological approach that attempts to wedge differences between individuals and the governed society through persuasive techniques to separate citizens in politics, regulations, culture, and private organizations. Once the attacker is wedged inside the targeted society and controls the individuals within, they are fed targeted information to cause a revolution within and strategically achieve their objective goal. To combat this technique, many public platforms found on social media are checked for accuracy and flagged for inaccuracies to fight misinformation from spreading. Also, many media platforms focus on verifying accounts to combat the spam of misinformation. I think this subdomain in cybersecurity has been super relevant to recent policies, as misinformation, disinformation, and “fake news” has plagued media platforms. Over the recent years, this has caused confusion and a rift between the governed society and individuals. The government’s plan to combat these issues focuses on analyzing these social cybersecurity attacks, then protecting a stronger cybersecurity infrastructure to combat these adversaries in the future. Personally, I agree with the government’s position in creating this new social cybersecurity plan, as social cybersecurity threats will continue to divide us all.
