Journal Entry #14

Review what the author says and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious.

Top Five Most Serious Violations

  1. Illegal Searches on the Internet – I believe that illegal searches on the Internet are the most dangerous and serious offenses because it helps encourage bad behaviors with these searches. The more someone searches, the more information they learn from the topic, the more negative and harmful behaviors occur overtime.
  2. Collecting Information about Children – Children are an marginalized group that are very vulnerable in society involving technology. Harmful individuals take advantage of this and use deviant techniques to exploit them. I find this issue very serious because many of these individuals are dangerous with their actions.
  3. Sharing Passwords, Addresses, or Photos of Others – Sharing the information of unconsented individuals on the Internet is serious as whatever is put on the Internet is permanently there. Many individuals or groups use this technique as revenge against others to exploit or expose them online. It’s very serious as private information should always be kept private.
  4. Faking your Identity Online – I think this topic falls under fraud and is very common online as cybercriminals fake other individuals’ identities for monetary gain. I find it important to include as their type of crime will always be present online.
  5. Bullying and Trolling – Cyberbullying is important because it affects a wide variety of marginalized groups in society and causes negative effects. Not only physically, it affects individuals mentally that decreases their confidence and self esteem.
