For this experience I took- Introduction to Leadership Concepts at Kansas State University. I got a course exemption for this requirement.
Here is an example of my work from my leadership class. This class was taken the fall semester of my freshman year. It was the first requirement I completed. Kansas State University has a really good leadership program they have a whole school designated to leadership. It is called the Staley School of Leadership.
This paper was a reflection I wrote over a TED-ED talk. I reflected over the importance of moral roots, the different types, and how to use them in leadership. Having moral roots when you lead is an extremely important skill because it keeps you grounded and treating people with care and respect.
While this class was a while ago, I still remember a lot. I also took another leadership class in the spring semester of my freshman year. I love these classes. They taught me how to lead different kinds of people. While we might have our own way we like to lead, we have to adapt that to the type of people we lead. Everyone is different and leadership won’t work if you just lead the same way to everyone. This class is very interactive. We did many group, activities, and many exercises that allowed us to open up to other people we may not even know. I enjoyed how personal this class was. It wasn’t like my other classes where the teacher taught us, and we just wrote papers. I gained a lot of professional skills with this. One of them, as mentioned earlier is how to change the way I lead to the kind of people I am working with. Another huge one is just how much this class helped me develop a diverse perspective. Everyone from the class shared things from their life and their perspectives. Everyone needs to take a leadership class, so they can figure out their leadership style, and how to lead other people. The leadership of a company can affect productivity and the environment. Personally, my favorite type of leadership is leading by example. This is something that I strive to always have. I will apply these skills in my future career or graduate school to always try to find a way to better the program or job I am part of.
